Evergreen fertile leaves; deciduous sterile leaves. Circumboreal origin. Loose clusters of deep green narrow, twice pinnate fronds. Fertile fronds are larger and more erect than the infertile ones. Native to mucky soils in wet woods, it will tolerate much less moisture. Requires very little care.
Deciduous. Native to eastern North America. Bright olive-green, upright fronds on dark shiny stems. New fronds emerge mustard to deep red coloured. ‘The’ fern for those tough areas with moist or saturated soils. Spreads quickly to provide a dense, weed-free groundcover. Also suitable for average garden soils where it’s less assertive. In cooler climates will take full sun in wet areas.
