Matteuccia struthiopteris ‘Jumbo’ | Jumbo Ostrich Fern

$9.00

Deciduous. A jumbo-size variety of our native, and edible, “fiddlehead fern.” Upright-arching clumps of graceful ostrich-like plumes. In summer distinct green, turning to dark brown, fertile fronds rise from the centre of each clump, remaining to provide winter interest. Not tolerant of drought and may go dormant. Not to worry, if well established, it will reappear when adequate moisture returns. Tolerates full sun if given sufficient moisture, but fronds will be held more upright. Spreads by rhizome to form bushy colonies.
